I recently picked up a Old Town (i think) wood/canvas canoe at a local garage sale. Now instead of enjoying my purchase I've become extremely curious of what I got. Any help you could offer would be great! The serial number is #10970 17
dimensions 17'x34 1/2"x13" (if i'm measuring correctly)

on furhter investigation the serial number is actually #40970 17

Old Town serial number 40970 belonged to a 17-foot CS (or common sense) grade HW model that was built in 1915-16 and shipped in 1916 to Newbury, N.H. It had open spruce gunwales, birch decks, thwarts and seats, a keel, and a floor rack. Its original color was dark green.

That would be nice. The assembly sounds like it would be a fun time and it's in a great location! We'll see though. The canoe does need some work and I'm not gonna atempt to do it myself in feer of making it worse or ruining it. so pim currently looking for a repair or restoration guy kinda near Philadelphia. If you have any suggestions i'll be happy to hear them!
