Curious about Wooden Canoes
Can anyone here in maine tell me if there are any shows or events comeing up that a person could go and learn more about wood canoes and care.

The WCHA's Northeast Chapter will be having their annual meeting on May 20th at Kimball Pond Boat Barn in Vienna. See the chapter's home page and calendar of events at http://www.wcha.org/chapters/ne/ or contact Bob Bassett at kpboatbarn@yahoo.com or 207-249-2814 for more information.

The Maine Canoe Symposium is on June 9, 10, 11 at Camp Winona, Moose Pond, Bridgton. More information is available at http://www.mainecanoesymposium.org/ on the web. I will be teaching the sailing canoe program with some wood canoes and I am always happy to talk about canoes.

The WoodenBoat School in Brooklin offers a number of courses about canoes. More information is available at http://www.thewoodenboatschool.com/ on the web. Rollin Thurlow also offers classes in his Atkinson shop as described at http://www.wooden-canoes.com/classes.htm and Jerry Stelmok has some similar offerings as described at http://islandfalls.wcha.org/building/building.html on his web site. Dave Mussey also offers courses in Glenburn as described http://mainejourneys.wcha.org/workshops.html on his web site. Many of the Maine builders listed at http://www.wcha.org/buildsupply/us/me.html are willing to offer help or classes if you contact them directly.

Feel free to reply here if this doesn't answer your question.
