Curious about Wooden Canoes
Bought a canoe trailer this week and it came with a project. Could use some help identifying it.

It is 14' 9" long. Beam 34". Ribs 1 7/8", 3 1/4" o/c. deck is 1 1/4" flat slab. you'll see in the pics that the inwale stops short of the stem. There is also a thin cap that went on top of the inwale only. All planking attached with galvanized (?) tacks. I see no copper or brass anywhere on the canoe.

Any ideas guys?

Claude

That looks a little Huron made on Quebec. It would have had a small, thin strip running down the top of the inwales to cover the joint where inwale meets deck (hence the small holes where nails were) and to bring inwale and outwale to same height. Only builders that did that that I know of. Great little canoes to paddle.

Thanks Rod,

I liked the look of it and the price was right. It's going to take a little work, but I enjoy a challenge!

Last pic - another life for a hockey stick, I've seen dozens of interesting uses for them over the years. Only in Canada. :D Congrats on the new project!
