verathane

Geoff Thompson

canvasback
Evening,

Just been given a Huron canoe sans canvas so I'm starting to check the tacks etc. and do some sanding before applying the new canvas...should I strip the old verathene before I put the new canvas on or after?
Any advice would help, I'll post some photos shortly beacause I want some before and after shot's.

Thanks,
Geoff

Assuming that "verathene" is varnish..... Yes, strip it, make all repairs, re-varnish...(real varnish, not polyurethane) all before new canvas. If you canvas first, the varnish will soak into the canvas at the plank seams and may be visible when when the canvas is filled and painted.
