A friend of the guy selling the canoe is a WCHA member and dug out the build sheet.
Even though it has the Carleton hull it was called a Rushton.
I suspect it was a transitional canoe as the hull shape is very different than the Rushton.
I have only seen one Old Town Rushton canoes, a friend has it - but it was really abused by the previous owner.

Nice find, the Old Town canoe with serial number 190452 is a 12 foot long fiberglass Rushton model that originally weighed 32.25 pounds. It was built in June, 1972. The original exterior gelcoat color was dark green. It shipped on June 28th, 1972 to Potsdam, New York. A scans showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. This hull is very different from the smaller Rushton and became the Carleton pack canoe in the 1973 catalog with a different deck and seat configuration. I would probably buy this canoe if it wasn't a four hour drive away. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

The earliest mention of the Pack I've found is in the 1982 catalog, but it doesn't say much about it.
The 1984 catalog is the first one where the Pack has its own page.
The oldest Packs I've had were from 1983 and 1984 (I rehab canoes as a retirement hobby).
My wife has a 1990 Pack, I gave mine to my best friend when I upgraded to a 14' solo canoe.
My son and his girlfriend each have a Pack I rehabbed for them.

Thank-you for the info. I have had a 1986 and a 1988 Pack, now have a 2010. I was always curious as to the origins of the OT Pack (Rx) model and was unaware of the Rushton and Carleton models mentioned in this thread. I had thought perhaps, that the Pack had originated with the Chipewyan 12, but the specifications differ.
The first reference to the Pack canoes that I've found was in the 1973 catalog shown below. Both the fiberglass Carleton model and the identical Chipewyan version in ABS were introduced at the same time. The 10.5 foot long Rushton model had been introduced in the 1971 catalog and was very popular. The Pack model filled a hole in their offerings between the 10.5 foot long Rushton and the 14 foot long Carleton and Chipewyan models. The hull shape is more like the larger Carleton and Chipewyan models than the smaller Rushton.
