Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello All,
I have adopted two orphans which I need info on. First, OT square end 18 #172634. Second, White 47= 334. The equal sign appears to be there. Any help much appreciated.

Congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 172634 is an 18 foot long square end paddling model with half ribs, a keel, outside stems, and a rowing seat. It was built between November, 1962 and January, 1963. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April, 29th, 1963 to Princeton, Maine. The back side of this record shows that it was returned on August 27th, 1964. It was repainted then sold on June 16th, 1965 to a dealer in Newbury, Massachusetts. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

There are no known detailed serial number records available for White. The 47 indicates that it was built in 1947. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
