The kindness of strangers

I had expected to go pick up a donated canoe today. However, caring for my wife who is just two weeks post surgery, the last two days were awful for her and I declined to leave her alone for the anticipated 2 hour round trip. Rich, the knowledgeable owner of the canoe, in a generous gesture, offered to bring the canoe to me! Wow!

So, I now have Old Town #17881, a 16' 1911 Charles River model in my barn. It will be my first closed gunwale canoe, and first inspection doesn't reveal anything particularly scary. It has the typical stem tip rot, a few bits of planking to replace, so far only one broken rib which will likely receive a back-side repair.
Rich's only caveat for the donation was right of first refusal if, once restored, I choose to sell it. Just between you and me Rich, we both may have a few more gray hairs when that happens!

Last image, that's a 1919 Old Town HW model up top in the background, and a plastic (shh... don't tell) Old Town which belongs to a friend... I swear.
