Starting A Build In Southwest Colorado

I'm in the planning and procurement stages of a wood and canvas canoe build.

Anyone have tips for building and maintaining a wood boat in a high and dry climate? Will I need to worry about rapid moisture change or drying out too much?

Also would love to hear any suggestions for wood suppliers in the southwest/rocky mountain region.
