my wife's delta lathe motor has decided that it needs a spin by hand to get it turning. it then runs fine. is this a brush problem? windings? bearings? any ideas? thanks.
Hi Bob,
I have had this problem a couple of times,, once on table saw and my compressor. It is usually the start up capacitor, it is a easy item to have repaired at a shop. Is your wife working her lathe to hard?
i should be so lucky! actually she has 2 lathes, she likes her delta midi and it gets almost all the work. she is a good turner. she just took it up last year. she is in the shop more than me many nights.
thanks for the response!
ps. is this something i can replace? i'm fairly good at fixing stuff! i will probably pull the motor tomorrow.
Hi Bob,
Yes I am sure you may be able to do your self,,you would have to see if delta has it listed as a replacement part. I am sure they would carry that part.
My old band saw motor does that from time to time. The fix is simply to get the shop vac out and suck the dust out through the slots in the motor housing. Then it will go for another couple years befor it needs it again. Might be worth a try, just in case, before you start disassembling things.
