I know it doesn't seem like an old town SN but i'm pretty sure it is an old town canoe produced sometime between 1975 and 2000. Pics are attached via ebay listing. Any help identifying this canoe would be great.
Chack the upper face of the stem at both ends and compare the numbers. Old Town would have 5-6 digits with a space and the length of the canoe. What you posted appears to be a Coast guard HIN number. See http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm for more information about the formats of these HINs over the years. The XTC at the beginning indicates that it was built by the Old Town Canoe Company and the 96 at the end shows that it shipped in 1996. The actual serial number may be 226604, in which case we wouldn't have the build record and I believe Old Town stopped keeping records by then. If you look for the actual serial number, it may be different from what I have speculated and if you post pictures, we may be able to tell you more about your canoe.
