Ot 179253 16

Greetings JIm,

This canoe was shipped almost to my backyard on April 16, 1968 to Ohio Canoe Adventures in Sheffield Lake, Ohio.

It was built as a 16' OTCA model with a keel and the original color was dark green. The build record is attached.

Thank you for contacting the WCHA where you will find this type of valuable information along with great advice from the pro's for restoration and repair of your canoe. Please consider joining the WCHA or make a contribution to keep this information flow continuing.

All the best,

Ric Altfather

Hi Jim,

Old Town 179253 is a 16 foot Otca model, with no grade identified on the build record. If it appears to have mahogany decks, thwarts, and seats, your canoe is AA grade; if the woods are ash and spruce, then it's a "common sense", or CS grade canoe. It was fitted with a keel and painted dark green before being shipped to Ohio Canoe Adventures in Sheffield Lake, OH on April 16, 1968.

The build record is attached below. If this description doesn't appear to match your canoe, we can try again.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details.

If you aren't already a member, please join WCHA or make a tax deductible contribution so that services like this can continue... we'd also like to have your company at our annual Assembly! Information about the annual assembly may be found in these Forums.

If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

If you can post some pictures of your canoe, we may be able to tell you more about it :). (Everyone here loves to see what the other guy has...)

Happy paddling--
Kathy

Haha...

That's the first time that's happened to me... I guess you know, Jim, just how eager we are to poke around the build records and help out!

I tend to be wordier than others...

Thanks

Thank you for the quick response. As I get into the repair (I have ordered the book and will read first), I know I will have more questions and concerns.
