serial number search

Hello:
Please double check the serial #. In the Old Town build records, 56738 was assigned to a 16' CS grade 'Livery' model with western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, seats and thwarts, originally painted Dark Green. That canoe appears to first have been shipped to St. Louis in 1920, then re-shipped to Cuba in 1937. It is possible that you may have a make other than Old Town, or that the serial # as quoted has been misread.

Hello again:
Searching a little further, I think I have solved the problem. If we use serial # 156738, there is a 'fit'.

156738 in the Old Town records is a 15' Square End canoe of CS (common sense) grade with open spruce gunwales, OSS (outside stems), sponsons, half ribs, keel and a rowing seat, originally painted dark green and shipped to Lewiston, ME, on 21 April 1952, after being built in the latter months of 1951. Sorry, but I'm encountering problems trying to attach the scan..

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Hope this helps.
Roger
