I have a red wood canvas canoe with the serial number 49-4115. Trying to find out more about this canoe. It’s 16’. The serial number is located at the bottom front of the boat. Stamped on wood at the seam. I can’t find any decal or name of who might have made it. Any info on this would greatly be appreciated. Thank you.

My guess would be a Chestnut but no serial number records are known to exist. The information at the link below may help you identify it from the dimensions and other details. Good luck,

Possibly, he put number 49 4 115 on a 16 foot long green canoe that sold for $140 to Camp Northwind in Minnesota during 1949.

The information at the link below and similar canoes listed at https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds should help you value this one. An important factor will be how much it leaks, which usually requires a water test. A confirmed Seliga canoe will often sell for slightly more than a similar one from another maker. Can you supply a picture of the serial number? The image below is from a canoe with the outline of an original Selega decal on the deck. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question.
