The build records for serial numbers 13247 and 13217 from both Old Town and Carleton do now match well. My guess is that you have the Old Town canoe with serial number 43217. This is an 18 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Otca model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, long mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, half ribs, a keel, outside stems, a mast seat, a mast step, a painter ring, and two flag sockets. It was built between May and June, 1916. The original exterior paint was dark green. It shipped on June 20th, 1916 to Poughkeepsie, New York. A scan of this build record can be found below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at
http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See
https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and
https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or renew.
It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. A listing at
https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds can be one of the fastest ways to find a good new home for a canoe like this and the page at
https://www.woodencanoe.org/ad-instructions explains the process. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sale,
Benson
