Serial Number search OT 188789

The Old Town canoe with serial number 188789 is a 16 foot long FG (fiberglass) model with a keel which weighed 85 pounds when it was built in March of 1972. The original exterior colors were white decks with a blue hull. It shipped on March 21st, 1972 to Bethlehem, Penna. A copy of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. I have contacted the seller and asked for pictures of the actual serial numbers since this description clearly doesn't match the pictures of the fifty pound model in the current advertisement. His summary of the company history isn't very accurate either. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

The seller has just responded that the correct serial number is 128739. This is a 15 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, fifty pound model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between December, 1939 and April, 1940. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It was shipped on April 9th, 1940 to Knoxville, Tenn. This build record is a much better match to the pictures. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
