Serial Number 83088 for Old Town Canoe

The canoe with #83088 was a 18' Guides Special in GS (Guides Special) grade.
It has spruce rails, birch seats, decks and thwarts and no keel. Check the planking wood carefully - the handwriting is a little tough to decipher but it looks like WC (western red cedar) was crossed out and POSSIBLY NC (Northern or White Cedar) was used. Western red cedar was far more common. This canoe was originally painted dark green and shipped to Patten ME in May 1924.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See to learn more about the WCHA, to watch a 10 minute video about WCHA and our programs and to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
