The Old Town canoe with serial number 144889 is a 16 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Yankee model with open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between April and June, 1946. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 18th, 1946 to Lexington, North Carolina. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions,

Benson

You are most welcome and the pictures are great but they show a double ended rowing boat model and not a Yankee canoe model. Can you provide some pictures showing the serial numbers from each end? A few of the tricks described at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 may help if some of the digits are not clear. Good luck,

Benson

DOH!!!!! Here is a photo of the serial number 144883 16 Sorry about that.

Hi Craig. The canoe referenced in this thread is something I am researching for a friend. I can try to get better pictures but it might take a bit. I am a complete newb to W/C canoes so I am not much help in answering any questions.

I just finished posting some questions about a Double Ender I am working on when I ran across this thread. looks like the exact same boat. Maybe you can answer some of my questions.
Thanks, Craig
Here is my thread. http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?12098-Double-End-OT

I think it is pretty interesting that these two threads came in so close together today. Both boats are identical and built May, June, and July of 1946. serial #s are 144841 and144883, only 32 boats apart. Cool.
