Hello all! New here and just really confused about the ID number stamped in the side of my canoe. I got it from a friend over ten years ago whom I believe he said he got from his grandfather. I THINK it’s a great Canadian but can’t be sure. It has some sticker residue left over from where the logo was, a big round circle towards the front of the canoe. I am just curious if anyone has ever seen a serial number like this before. It follows: TWJ011E57020. I have been searching for days and haven’t found anything similar anywhere. I appreciate the help!

Welcome, the information at https://uscgboating.org/content/manufacturers-identification-detail.php?id=12694 indicates that the TWJ prefix was assigned to Tom's Wholesale Bait & Tackle who were canoe importers from 1986 to 2005. The usual format is described at https://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf but the rest of the number clearly doesn't match. It might be a Canadian number as described at https://tc.canada.ca/en/marine-tran...ibing-hull-serial-number-manufactured-vessels but it doesn't match that format either.

The babiche seats are frequently found on Canadian canoes. The deck shape may be the most unique characteristic that could be used to identify it. It is similar to the the one shown at https://dygtyjqp7pi0m.cloudfront.net/i/3559/1274028_2.jpg on a Great Canadian.

Therefore, it is likely to be a Great Canadian canoe that shipped to Middleboro, Massachusetts but this number alone isn't enough to confirm that. Please reply here if you ever get a better answer. Good luck with your research,

Benson

Hello Benson and wow, I really appreciate the wicked fast reply! So I had tried to search using the basic format for Canada and the U.S. as well and haven’t had much luck besides finding the TWJ information. I have yet to come across another HIN that is set up like mine is. If I do find out any more details, andI hope I do I will definitely send out a reply. Thanks again, much appreciated!
