Serial # Help 116576 17

WCHA Team - just picked up a W&C beauty with serial #116576 17 in northern WI. Have been on the search for a few years and this one looked like the right project with my daughter. Any information that you can provide would be helpful. Will be a new proud member of WCHA on Monday. Thanks!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 116576. This is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, twenty inch oak decks, oak thwarts, oak seats, and a keel. It was built between November, 1935 and May, 1936. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped in June 6th, 1936 to Duluth, Minnesota. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. The 1936 catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_ab3169d6e501469ea23650dd49e05fc4.pdf has more details on page five. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
