Hello--
Old Town 140821 is an AA (top) grade Yankee model canoe that was finished from September 1944 to January 1945. It has open ash gunwales. AA grade would have mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts and mahogany seat frames. The canoe was fitted with a keel and floor rack and was originally painted dark green. It was shipped to Kinderhook, NY, on April 20, 1945.
Re your ash gunwales-- spruce is more common and occasionally the gunwales are mahogany on AA grade canoes. This is a "war era canoe", which means some things commonly done on Old Towns may be somewhat different because of supply issues. Your canoe may have slat seats rather than cane seats--- or it could have had slat seats that were replaced with cane in the '50s.
If you use the 'search' function above and put in 'Yankee', you should find some interesting information in past discussions of this model.
Best of luck rehabbing your canoe-- sounds like a great find. If you have questions, please ask here in the forums, and remember that we love seeing pictures.
