Scarfed Ribs??

I just picked up a 1936 16' Old Town CS HW in pretty good shape. What has me a little confused are the scarfed ribs. Not all the ribs are scarfed but quite a few are and yet all the ribbing looks to be uniform and original. Did Old Town incorporate this technique in their builds or did someone restore it this way? Anyone run across this kind of thing?

Hi Rinkrat

Those would be repairs after it left Old Town.

As you collect more canoes you will see some very interesting attempts to "fix stuff".

I have a place in SW Michigan and park about 20 canoes here if you're ever in the area on a weekend.
