Curious about Wooden Canoes
I have come across this canoe .. it looks to be in good shape for it's age .. I would guess 1920's ?? Needs some minor restoration S/N 80710 17
What might be the build history?

Thanks

Jim

Jim. The canoe with that number was assigned to a 17' HW model in CS Grade with Western Cedar (red) planking, spruce rails and birch decks, seats and thwarts. It was painted dark green and shipped to Kingston PA in February of 1924. Copy of the build record is attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info and the build record.

This matches the story of the owner who recieved the canoe back in 1956 when she was a small girl .. a guift her father gave to her.

Thanks again .. right now the HW is in need of some restoration but will look real sweet when finished.

Cheers,

Jim
