Rushton Stamp

The Norumbega chapter is restoring a 17’ Indian Girl for the assembly auction this year.
We found the stem was a little punky in a small spot so the decision was made to remove the stem and fabricate a new one.
We would like to stamp the stem and replacement thwart with the Rushton identifier.
Before we go and have one made I wanted to check if someone has one we can borrow, we will pay for shipping and turn it around quickly.
Thanks

Hi Chuck, .....a " little " punky in a " small " spot ? why not a little GIT ROT . I have saved original builders stamps by cutting it out in a very thin laminate of sorts and inserting it into the proper spot in a new stem for a perfectly saved J.H. mark . Please, no daahts, just sayin .

I would never do that...re-stamp the stem. I guess I might be in the minority here since I also do not like to use replica decals.
Faced with the same problem, also on a Rushton with a bad stem, I decide that slicing the stamped section from the bad stem and affixing it to the new one was the way to go. The stamp remains original and to the observant eye, the transfer should be relatively obvious.
There is (as can be seen in your posted image) a certain patina that develops around and within the stamping on a Rushton stem. I would hate to see that removed.
Dave mentions using Git Rot....and I have had some reasonable success with it.

As I mentioned in the original post we voted and the stem is out and new one installed so we are beyond “get rot” and that’s a debate for another day.
Photo was of the good stem still in the boat.
I thought about laminating the original name on but wanted to see options priced out a Rockler branding iron is silly expensive.
Chapter blasting along, turn has been great and most of all we are learning.
We are on schedule to bring it to assembly for the auction.

Well, the ship has sailed. I'm pretty sure those letters were stamped in, not burned.
The set of stamps used on the brass share the same font type, but are smaller.
