Request Help - Canoe Idenitfication

Hello All,
My dad acquired this canoe about 50 years ago when I was a child. He passed when I was in college and I never got to ask if he knew any history on it. As I recall, it was in pretty bad shape when he got it, so I would place it as much older than 50 years. I have had a renewed interest in it and have researched numerous sites and photos but just can't seem to nail down the make/model. I was hoping that with the wealth of experience of the folks in this association that you might be able to help me out.

Here are some specs as well as some key photos.

It is 16' long and 34-35" wide (depending on where you measure) with an inside depth of about 12".
The stem is 7/8" wide with a quarter round curve to it.
The ribs are 2.25" wide.
Keel screws seem to run through every other rib.
There is evidence of screw sets along the length to have possibly held down center planking at one time.

Thanks in advance for all of your help - much appreciated.
Steve

My guess is a Penn Yan based on the deck and thwart shapes. See http://dragonflycanoe.com/wood-canoe-identification-guide/features-decks/ and http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?6392 for some similar ones. There may be a serial number on the inside stem if you can strip the paint. See http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 for some tips about revealing hidden serial numbers on canoes. The information at http://dragonflycanoe.com/id/pennyan.html may help identify it if you can find something. Good luck and let us know if you come up with anything.
