I am looking for the build record for hull id 167776. I am having the canoe restored and would like to get a copy of the original build order and accurate decal version to put on it.

Please advise - thanks!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 167776 is a 17 foot long Otca model with a keel. It was built between February and June, 1959. The original exterior paint color was fire red. It shipped on June 9th, 1959 to Detroit, Michigan. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the first attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

Your canoe probably had a deck decal with a red bar and black letters as shown in the 1958 canoe below. These decals are available from http://woodencanoe.org/catalog/prod...d=400&osCsid=ba0eb16ffb04af920d4255b74260ccff in the WCHA store. The side of the canoe is likely to have had a metallic and red name plate as shown on the cover of the 1959 catalog below. These have not been reproduced yet but I have a single unused original one that I can scan if you want to get it recreated.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Sounds Like Match

I believe that is the correct build order as I can confirm my father's employment at Hudson’s. He worked as a clerk in the sporting goods department when he ordered the canoe.

Thank you for the build order and appearance confirmation. WCHA has been very helpful in this process as I am also having the canoe restored through a WHCA referral.

I look forward to joining WCHA - thanks!
