Hello all. Looking at an Old Town canoe locally. Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction to determine length, model and year.

Serial number - XTC06444M75L

Thanks

Pat

This doesn't appear to be an accurate hull identification number. The information at https://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf indicates that there should be five digits between the XTC and the M and the last character should be alphabetic. It appears to be an Old Town from 1975. Can you provide any pictures of the hull identification number or serial number? See http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/47374/ and http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/05-jpg.37126/ for similar hull identification numbers and http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/33956/ or http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/50850/ for serial numbers.

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 206444 is an 18 foot long FG (fiberglass) model that weighed 97 pounds. It was built between February and March, 1975. The original exterior gelcoat colors were avocado on the hull with desert white on the deck. It shipped on July 16th, 1975 to Bolton Landing, New York. The back side indicates that the gelcoat was thin on the stern end of the deck. Scans showing both sides this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
