"Quetico Wilderness"

Birchbark CanoeingBuilder
One of the finest Wilderness areas in Ontario Ca. was recently graced by Dave Osborn's 70 year old Thompson wood-canvas canoe. Four canoeists spent 8 days dipping their paddles into those pristine waters teaming with lake trout, walleye, smallmouth bass and northern pike.
The weather was generally cool and windy with a couple of nice days of bugs and sunshine.
We had a beautiful island base camp with the finest panoramic view of the lake and other islands. Day trips led us to some great fishing, beaver & moose sightings, ruffed grouse drumming and songs from the loon.
Daily shore lunch with freshly caught fish was the norm. Thanks Dave for a fun adventure in the Canadian bush:cool:

Very nice, pretty canoes, fish and lakes.

Wish I was there. Not sure I'd haul that cast iron pan though. :)

Good work Dave.

cast iron and canvas

Ah, that looks awesome, canvas packs belong in wood canoes. Once caught a laker on a five-of-diamonds spoon on Lake Temagami surface fishing in the spring, figured it was a fluke! Still rather eat walleye or pike tho...

Hi Ferdy-- Stopped at your house while you were away, and heard this was what you were up to... glad to see it was such a great time. Your pictures say it all...

Lovely shots

Where in the Quetico were you? This time of year you can catch lakers near the surface (later in the year they're down deep and hard to snare).

We were in the Pikerel Narrows area on Batchewaung Bay.
We were trolling spoons behind the canoe & they would smack them hard. Great fighting fish a goode eating too:cool:
