I am new to the forum and old canoes so am hoping you can bear with me. I found this old 16' canoe. The owner says its a Chestnut and its been restored.
I noticed something interesting. All the filled nail holes along the inwale.
Rear seats hung from the inwale. No hardware through the inwale for anything. Decks are new I think
Thwarts also look new. No tapered ribs. Flat bottom, ribs look narrow and keel holes every other rib.
Could this be an old Chestnut? I'm wondering if all the nail holes in the inwale are from a cap from closed gunwales.
Thoughts?
