Roger Young
display sample collector
Here are a couple of photos from the factory sample model canoe and paddle display in Niagara Falls, on 30 October. While at the show, I was able to acquire an antique regatta megaphone of the Detroit Boating Club, dating to the early 1900's; it was in the auction of sporting collectibles on Saturday. The Detroit Boating Club is said to be the oldest boating club in the Americas, having been formed in 1839. The megaphone is in excellent shape with lovely old crackled paint and great decorations. It is 30" long and 14" in diameter at the wide end.
Hopefully, I'll be able to bring the model canoes to the 2012 Assembly. Shown are sample canoes by Carleton, White, Rice Lake, Old Town, Kennebec, Giddley/Grew, Stephenson, English, Peterborough, Wickett and a life boat sample from Lake Simcoe. Miniature paddles are by many of the same makers.
Cheers,
Roger
