I've been told around 1920 Peterborough started putting serial and model numbers on an aluminum tag. Yours has an older thwart tag. I have a newer thwart tag, trademark type, but still have the stamped in serial numbers. No records so thats what you have.
I think it is a nice boat. Are their any other numbers stamped on the coaming? It seems weird that a trapper canoe would have those decks and sailing mast.

You think she could be from before the 20's. I'll look for other numbers.
I don't know much about canoe but could it be because she was made for exportation? I'm french and the boat was imported in france.

Is it possible that the overall length of your canoe is 15 feet (4.57 m) and its width 36 inches (91.44 cm) measured to the outside hull not including the gunnel?

If so it is most likely an early Peterborough “Trapper”, model # 90 built sometime between 1909 and 1914.

Hi Hans,

Length is measured in a straight line between the extreme points on the outside of the canoe.
Width is measured at the canoes widest point at the outside of the hull (not including the gunnels).
Depth from the top of the gunnels to the outside hull bottom at the canoe midships.

The width I wrote includes gunwales. So it should be a little more narrow : 14,6 x 36 x 13.

In France I found ads from Pioso and André from 1922 to 1931.

She seems very fragile because it craks everytime I carry it. I think insects eat here.

I bought it from a man who didn't know anything about canoeing.

A year ago I opened a french forum about old canoes : Forum Canoë Bois. And I write a website (in French too) about the same subject : Héritage Canoë Bois.

I tried to find out which boat and how old she could be. I looked for the serial number in the "Dragonfly Canoe Works" pages but didn't succeed to. Could you help me please to understand how to do so ?

She's a wood and canvas Peterborough, imported in France by Pioso and André (probably around the 20's because I found adverts in French magazines), # 90 8922 and 14.6 x 36 x 13.
