I'm a bit surprised that he is using the varnish from the can. As a rule, I never do that. But, if you are using a lot of varnish and it's not going to sit for long, I suppose that is OK. He is quite meticulous about his prep. His advice is very good. I was happy that he mentioned dealing with the shaft in an unwrapped situation. Trying to deal with the shaft when the rest of the paddle is wet is arguably one of the real challenges.
