Hi! I have acquired an OT Tripper and I was curious about any additional information about the boat. Its serial number is XTC28019M80F, and it had an additional line of numbers stamped into it that read 228019. The boat isn’t in too bad of condition. I am working on patching some spots on the bottom of the boat. I also need to make a new yoke, the old one rotted out. This is my first ever project boat, calling her “The Slug.” Thanks!!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 228019 and hull identification number XTC28019M80F is a 17 foot long Chipewyan Tripper model with aluminum inserts in the rails that weighed 80 pounds. It was built in August, 1979. The original exterior color was green. It shipped on August 15th, 1979 to Berlin, New Jersey. The back side of the card shows that it was returned, replaced, resold, and shipped to Wiscasset, Maine on January 14th, 1980. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
