OT Serioa #130924 18

Max,

Could you check that serial number again? Old Town number 130924 belonged to a 16-foot canoe, not an 18-footer.

The owner measured the canoe and found that it is a 16'. He just couldn't read the number very well. Please send the build sheet for 130924 16. Thanks. Max

Max,

Old Town #130924 was a 16-foot AA (or top) grade OTCA model that was built in 1940-41 and shipped in 1941 to Butler, Penn. It had open mahogany gunwales and mahogany decks, thwarts, and seats. It had a keel and a floor rack. It had a name painted on it, and possibly a bang plate, but I can't read that part of the build record. There was also a following card in the database that may indicate the canoe was returned because of damage in transit. It indicates that a claim was paid on the boat and the canoe was resold by the railroad company.

The scan of those two records are attached below-- click to get a larger image. These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that the owner could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Norm
