May we please see the build record for this Old Town Guide canoe. The digit following the 6 looks like a 1 but is hard to read at both ends.

The owner has 6 paddles that were made for her family by George Stephenson.

Thanks,

Linda & Dan

The Old Town canoe with serial number 61711 is an 18 foot long, GS grade, IF model (I believe that's for ideal fishing) with open spruce gunwales, maple decks, thwarts, and seats with a keel. It was built between June 17th and June 30th 1920. The original exterior paint color was dark blue. It shipped on July 9th, 1920 to Fryeburg ??, Maine (and that's a guess). A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
