The Old Town with serial number 178898 is a 15 foot long light weight model so you will need to check all of the digits in the serial number again and confirm the overall length in a straight line. Some pictures of the serial numbers from each end could also help. I found several 16 foot long canoes by replacing the eights in your serial number with threes as shown below. My guess is that you have the one with number 178398 since it originally shipped nearest your current location. This is a 16 foot long Guide model with a keel, a mast seat, and a mast step. It was built between June and July, 1967. The original exterior paint color was G. S. (Guide's Special) green . It was shipped on July 27th, 1967 to Vienna, West Virginia. This canoe was bought in the 1960's in Mass. it is still there with the original owner. I am in Rochester NY and I might become its second owner. The boat best fits the description on the build order for the 15ft. Lightweight model ( the second file posted) other than the 16 in the serial number. Maybe that number was given to me in error. I have pics. that I can forward to you if you would like. Thanks so much for the help. Steve
