ot#50?

The Old Town canoe with serial number 105451 is shown as 15 feet long, CS (common sense or standard) grade, fifty pound model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales equipped with a keel, and with seats omitted. The canoe was built between March and June 1931. The original exterior paint was dark green. It was shipped to Camp Sunrise, Boy Scouts of America, Fair Haven, Wisconsin on June 21, 1930. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link behind the thumbnail images attached below.

I saw this canoe on the lawn at Assembly -- it's a very nice canoe. It was common for camps to order canoes without seats, to teach the campers the "proper" way of paddling while kneeling. The canoe seemed to be in god original condition -- seats could be added, of course, but as an alternative you might consider using seats like those made by Tom Seavey and others.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe.

Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks Greg,

I picked it up at the assembly and have been paddling it quite a bit. It is in great shape and doesn't leak at all. I will wait until this winter to re-canvas, paint and varnish.
