Ot 174382

Tom Heys

Paddler/Downwind Sailer
Could you post the build record for Old Town SN 174382, please? I believe it is a fifteen-footer.

Thanks, Tom

The Old Town canoe with serial number 174382 is a 15 foot long fifty pound model with a keel and narrow two and 3/4 inch planking. It was built between November and December, 1964. The original exterior paint color was red. It shipped on March 9th, 1965 to Southwick, Mass. The back side of the card indicates that it may have moved to Sharon, Mass. by May 1st, 1981 when a previous request for a copy of the build record was answered. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.

This scan was created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probalby know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you or your friend have any other questions.

Benson
