Original or not?

I found this OT canoe up in Stowe and the fellow said his father worked for OT doing field type research.
Any way this is a Camper serial # 227255 but it has a sailing mast hole, rudder etc...
I was wondering if this is original from the factory, as I can not find any out here with this combination?

The scanned Old Town records stop at 210999 so none of us here have any newer information for canoes like yours. You may be able to contact the customer service department at the Old Town Canoe Company and get a copy from their paper records if they are not too busy. Please reply here if they are not able to satisfy your request. There should be a hull identification number on the starboard stern that starts with XTC and ends with a date. The information at http://www.boatsafe.com/nauticalknowhow/hin.htm may help you decode this date. The chart at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=24294&d=1360203686 indicates that your canoe probably shipped around 1978. The "Camper" model name was first introduced in the 1978 catalog. The assembly instructions for a fiberglass Wahoo model sailing canoe from Old Town during this period are available at http://forums.wcha.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=24841&d=1365964328 which may be similar to yours. I can probably identify if you have an original factory rig if you can provide some pictures of it. Good luck,

The Old Town canoe with serial number 227255 is a 16 foot long Chipewyan Camper model with aluminum inserts in the vinyl rails and a full sailing rig. It was built from June, 1979 to April, 1980 and weighed 74 pounds. The original exterior color was green. It shipped on May 6th, 1980 to Morrisville, Vermont. The back side of this scan shows that there was soft spot in the bow end. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below.
