The Old Town records don't go back that far. Can you provide pictures of the serial numbers from each end and the bow deck? Thanks,

Benson

The Old Town canoe with serial number 126154 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with red western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks, birch thwarts, birch seats, a keel, and a floor rack. It was built between December, 1938 and April, 1939. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on March 27th, 1940 to Palmyra, Pennsylvania. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Page five of the 1940 catalog at https://www.woodencanoe.org/_files/ugd/537308_468c56aee56a47929c423becb0f15f30.pdf has more details. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

Jenny,
The art work/paint scheme on the canoe in the back of your photo looks interesting. Could you post a picture of it?
Thanks, Jim
