I don't know too much about this canoe.. it was my grandfathers and it was at our cabin all these years. it's green, wooden and from what i can tell it's an old town..

i used it in october, no leaks, in pretty good condition.

wondering what exactly this canoe is (year, model, value, etc.)

any information would be appreciated.

thanks,
dan (in minneapolis)

Someone will be along with the build info, if it's an Old Town. Is the serial number stamped into the stems, at both ends? And does it have a 2-digit number an inch or two after it, corresponding to the length of the canoe?

The value of wooden canoes is discussed here: http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57-How-much-is-my-old-wooden-canoe-worth

I think the serial # is just on the stem at one end of the canoe.. i did not see a space with another # but I can look closer tomorrow.

The Old Town canoe with serial number 167321 is an 15 foot long fifty pound model with a keel. It was built between March and June, 1958. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June 23rd, 1958 to Minneapolis, Minn. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. The link in Paul's reply has a very good summary of how to value an old canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

I did look again and the serial # is on both ends and there is a space of about 6-8 inches then the # 15.. so that does make sense.
I appreciate your information.
I know this canoe is very usable because I used it last fall..it's definately not in perfect condition though.. I will post pics eventually on here.
Not sure if I'm going to try to sell this.. I might put an ad on Craigslist or something but I do love this old canoe and may still want to use it but for the right price I would sell because the money would come in handy.
Anyway, thanks again for the info..
Dan
