Old Towns and fiberglass - when did it begin??

When did OT start fiberglassing their new W/C canoe?

Did they ever fiberglass them and then finish the glass off so that it looked like canvas, or did they always leave it clear?

Thanks

Gregg

Hi Gregg,

The first mention of fiberglass covering is the 1967 catalog (Trapper model). Stock color was dark green. "Natural Cedar" finish (clear) is first mentioned 1968. First mention of "standard" models available in glass covering is 1970. These tidbits, and lots of other Old Town trivia, can be found on the Old Town Canoe Company Catalog Collection CD-ROM available from the WCHA.

Cheers,
Dan
