Old Town?

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I aquired a canoe from a neighbor. I am trying to get records on it. I believe it is an old town ( it has the diamond bolts). The length is definitely 16 foot. The only number we can get off of it so far is ....106 16 I think some are missing. Any help would be great. I beleive it came from a Canadian owner.

If it's an Old Town, look for 5 or 6 numbers... they were put on both stems, so one end may be better than the other. Digital pictures may show things the human eye misses. Wetting the area can help.

Does the canoe have the classic OT short deck? Older Otcas have a longer deck with coaming, and Carletons have a heart.

Some restorers use the diamond-head bolts on anything. A 5-6 digit serial number and diamond head bolts could be something other than Old Town, so recognition of deck-style and other Old Town traits is important. But, when you find all of the number, we can see if it matches the canoe!

Good luck-
Kathy
