The Old Town canoe with serial number 135978 is a 17 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Otca model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, oval outside finish rails, a keel, an Abercrombie & Fitch nameplate, a painter ring in the stem and number ten canvas. It was built between August and October, 1942. The original exterior paint color was bright red. It shipped on February 24th, 1943 to New York City. A scan showing this build record can be found below. The link at the bottom has another canoe that shipped on the same order.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well.
