Hello!
First wooden canoe. First post. Love history.
THANK YOU to whomever it is who looks up these serial # requests.

I used the "contact" page at Old Town Canoe yesterday to find out how to pay for the $3 search and photocopy, but haven't heard back yet. I would STILL like to get a printable scan or photocopy of the info.

Also joined WCHA yesterday. Can't wait to see the magazine.

I'm as new as they come to this hobby/passion. My in-laws have been paddling in the Adirondacks since the 1890's.

Thanks again!

Well, after all those kind words, I thought that we may have to disappoint you - 133932 did not appear in our records. Never fear, though - in looking through Bensons previous searches, I found it. This indicates that the original was probably mis-filed when it was scanned, or Benson is smarter than I am - both of which are entirely possible!

In any event, 133932 is found on a 16' CS (common sense or no frill) grade HW canoe (Heavy Water) with sponsons and a keel. It has oak seats, decks and thwarts and was originally painted bright red. It was shipped to Philadelphia, PA in June of 1942. The build record is attached.

Scans of approximately 210,000 records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Please join WCHA or make a tax deductable contribution so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA, http://www.wcha.org/wcha_video.php to watch a 10 minute video about WCHA and our programs and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to join. If you are already a WCHA member, THANK YOU!

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions. Thanks for joining WCHA - you will really enjoy this organization and these forums.

Thank you kindly, Mike, for this documentation AND for spending a part of your evening researching this canoe. Although the canvas has been removed, remnants of the original red color are still evident.

When we purchased the canoe only days ago, the seller said that he had found it on the eastern shore of Maryland--so it may not have drifted too far away from its first seller in the 66 years since WWII/Pearl Harbor. We hope that its early service provided a peaceful respite for someone living in a war-torn world.

The next chapter of its life will be spent in the Blue Ridge Mountain foothills of Virginia. The graceful lines of this old canoe make for truly soul-pleasing historical art!

Thank you again for generously adding to our documentation.
