Old Town with sponsons

The Old Town, Carleton, and Kennebec canoes with serial number 11127 do not have sponsons. Can you supply some pictures of the numbers from both ends and the interior of the canoe? Thanks,

Benson

These are the only photos sent to me. Tough to make out. Screw in the way.

My guesses are that you may have the Old Town canoe with serial number 11427 or 114274. The first is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW model with red western cedar planking, closed spruce gunwales, spruce decks, spruce thwarts, spruce seats, a keel, sponsons, polished brass rowlocks, two slat seat backs, and two cane seat backs. It was built between June and July, 1909. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 20th, 1909 to St. Paul, Minnesota.

The second is a 17 foot long, AA (or top) grade, HW model with red western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, mahogany thwarts, mahogany seats, a keel, a floor rack, and sponsons. It was built between July, 1934 and April, 1935. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 1st, 1935 to Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

Scans of these build records can be found below. These scans were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. Your life membership to the WCHA is much appreciated.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if these descriptions doesn't match the canoe. How long is the canoe? Does it look like it was cut down at some point and converted to open gunwales? Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
