Wooden Canoe Guys ~

Do You possibly have any history info on My Old Town Tripper XTC25789M79I ~

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 225789 and hull identification number XTC25789M79I is a 17 foot long Chipewyan Tripper model with aluminum inserts in the rails that weighed 85 pounds. It was built in April, 1979. The original exterior color was red. It shipped on April 24th, 1979 to Albuquerque, New Mexico. The back side of the card shows that the hull was thin and had some hard lines on the bow end. A scan showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thanks much for that Benson,,, My Wife & I are the original owners of this boat so this is a fun piece of info to have about it ~~
This was the 2nd OT We purchased from Mountains & Rivers, 1st was a 16' Chipewyan,,, The folks that owned Ms&Rs were a
fun pair,,, Don't recall if they were married or bro & sis,,, They & I & a hand full of friends of mine started the Adobe Whitewater
Club back in the mid to late '70s ~
The Trippers weight makes for a not fun boat to portage but the hull design makes it very much @ home on open flat water or in
moderate whitewater like RioGrande Pilar Race Course, San Juan Goose Necks & Arkansas Ruby Mountain to Parkdale kind
of stuff,,, Now in my 80th year it's a bit to much boat for Me to throw around so a few years back I got Bell Chesapeake Prospector
with Kev'Light layup which weighs in @ about 38lbs,, Can't say enough good stuff about this boat,,, To give it a proper start in life
I took it to where I grew up, a little SE of Ely, Minn, to the 2nd rapids on the Kawishiwi just above BirchLake so that its 1st Rapids Descent could be the same as Mine back in '52 > We both loved it ~
