Hi, new to the forum and just scored an old town tripper that Is in need of some crack repair’s. Interested in the history behind it from what I was told the canoe was driven up from Wisconsin to Manitoba, Canada for a river trip but developed some cracks along the way from improper transportation and the owner bought a new boat and left this one behind. Serial number is xtc597981485 or xtc59798i485.

Thanks!

My guess is that this may be hull identification number XTC59798I485 which would be serial number 259798 that was made in September, 1984 for the 1985 model year. The scanned serial number build records stop just over 250000 around 1983 so there isn't much more information available. Sorry,

Benson

Trippers are good canoes. Cracks can be repaired. Thickened G-Flex is your friend. I have read advice to actually cut through with a saw, following the crack. I have repaired quite a few of them (Campers, Trippers, Mad River etc.) but never done that. I use a Dremel to carefully open a pocket for G-Flex. I have never cut all the way through. If the crack is through, I do the same repair from the other side. I've never had one of those repairs fail. Good luck.
