Old Town Trapper serial #179927

The Old Town canoe with serial number 179927 is a 15 foot long lightweight model with a keel. It was built between January and March, 1968. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It first shipped on June 24th, 1968 to Oneonta, New York. There appears to have been some damage in shipping because it was returned on July 23rd, 1968, patched on July 25th, 1968, and resold to Melrose, Mass. on July 29th, 1968 as shown on the back side of the card. Scans of both sides of this build record can be found by following the links behind the thumbnail images attached below.

These scans and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-the-wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-New-Membership.html to join.

This model is currently know as the trapper and was formerly the fifty pound model but the forms are the same.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
