Old Town Sportboat

The Old Town with serial number 149826 is a 12 foot long, AA (or top) grade sport boat with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, mahogany decks, spruce thwarts, spruce seats, half ribs, a keel, rowlocks, and the "stern opened a little." It was built between October and December, 1947. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on February 10th, 1948 to Port Chester, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the thumbnail image attached below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://store.wcha.org/WCHA-Membership-Renewal.html to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your boat or number. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Thank you for the information.
Nice to see that there are people interested in preserving these old boats. This is my first one. It has had some restoration work done on it. Can't wait to get it cleaned up and try it out.
Thanks again for your help.
