Old Town sn:295704 15

It is my sad duty to report that the scanned Old Town records stop just over 250,000 in 1984 so no one here can provide more detailed information for your serial number 295704. The hull identification number can provide a rough date. See https://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf for more details about that format. The length indicates that is is probably a Trapper model. Sorry,

Benson

Better late than never? I've recently been scanning some unsorted records and found this one. The Old Town canoe with serial number 295704 is an 15 foot long Trapper model with mahogany decks and thwarts that weighed 69 pounds. It was built between February and March, 1988. The original exterior fiberglass was left clear to show the natural wood. The back side of the card shows that there was some dust on the bottom finish and some sanding marks on the top of the gunwale. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
